Rare and vibrant Pashtun or Baloch bridal textile called a desmal/desmaal/dismal. Handmade by the woman's family, or the bride. This one is elaborate enough to make me think it's the veil worn by the bride herself. A smaller one would have been given to the man for engagement. The piece is sometimes worn over the man's shoulder after the ceremony or draped over the couple's hands as a symbol of unity. Each stitch is made with attention, intention, and purpose. This piece has embroidered flowers, CLOVE tassels, and a series of plastic dangles that catch the light with movement. The cloves have retained their scent - please note if you have any sensitivities. Minimal condition issues, a missing plastic accent or two, and some faded and dusty fabric. The fabric is a deep orange bordered with blue beaded fringe. Very much a handmade item with a lot of character and personality. I am not sure of the exact age - definitely vintage but most likely not antique. You can find these machine-made, but the handmade one is so special, in my opinion.
